Message 2 of 1208 April 2006 at 9:22am | IP Logged I think I am going to work with a German workbook I have for now and in a couple of weeks, move on into Assimil. It's the basic grammar that you have to know in order to say a phrase properly.Īlso, each German II lesson was longer than the German I lessons, too long for me. I think my problem is that Pimsleur seems pretty weak when it comes to explaining grammar, such as the verb conjugation, noun gender, et cetera. Now, with German II I just felt like a mimicking parrot. I just feel like the Pimsleur method is only good when introducing the language (German I).

I was on lesson 6 or 7 of German II this evening and I just totally gave up on it. I know because I wrote down nearly every phrase in German I in order to help my reading comprehension. However, when I started German II, a warning signaled in my head when the program expected me to know a couple of German words I wasn't even introduced to in the first level. I also have a basic understanding of German word order and the case system, but I learned that on my own without Pimsleur. I now have near perfect pronounciation, including the German R. I finished German I last week and I enjoyed it for the most part. Is it just me, or has someone else on here liked the first level of Pimsleur German better than the second and third level?
